How Our Robot Zaps Germs
Infection control is taken very seriously on the Baker County Medical Services (BCMS) healthcare campus. So seriously, in fact, that we’ve enlisted the help of a LightStrike™ Germ-Zapping Robot to keep our patients, their families and our staff safe since 2017.
“BCMS has an on-going commitment to state-of-art technology that we are very proud of,” says Edward Anderson, CEO of Baker County Medical Services. “Whether it’s imaging equipment, diagnostic equipment or infection management technology, our tools rival those of any healthcare facility, regardless of size.”
Our LightStrike™ Germ-Zapping Robot uses ultraviolet light to disinfect exam, procedure and patient rooms and is used in all of our campus facilities including Ed Fraser Memorial Hospital, Dopson Family Medical Center, Baker Rural Health Clinic and W. Frank Wells Nursing Home.
In April 2020, the manufacturer of the LightStrike™ robot announced that it’s the first and only ultraviolet (UV) disinfection technology proven to destroy the actual SARS-CoV-2, which is the virus that causes COVID-19, in two minutes.
Our robot works by disinfecting rooms using pulses of high-intensity, high-energy ultraviolet (UV-C). The Xenon lamp thoroughly disinfects surfaces with bursts of UV light that are more intense than natural sunlight! The light zaps germs that manual cleaning doesn’t reach.
