Pinched Nerve

When a nerve is pinched or compressed between tissues such as bone, ligaments, or tendons, nerves may become inflamed and irritated, causing pain. Pinched nerves also occur when the discs between vertebrae weaken or tear and the bone puts pressure on the spinal nerves. The result may be pain, tingling, burning sensation, or reduced function in the arms, hands, or lower back, depending on the location of the pinched nerve.

Treatment can include non-surgical methods such as prescribed rest and medications, steroid injections, and/or splinting. If these methods don’t provide relief, your doctor may recommend surgery to relieve pressure on the affected nerves.

Your orthopedic surgeon can recommend the best surgical method. The goal of surgery is to remove possible scar tissue, disc material, or bone fragments for pain relief.
