Respiratory Therapist

The Respiratory Therapist will administer respiratory care and life support to patients with cardiopulmonary system deficiencies and abnormalities and will train and act as a resource for respiratory department technicians.

 Essential Function

  • Assess patients and recommend respiratory therapy treatments.
  • Plan, prepare, and administer respiratory therapy treatments including IPPB, aerosol, chest physical therapy, incentive spirometry, and sputum inductions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Perform diagnostic pulmonary and cardiac tests.
  • Record patient treatment, response, and progress.
  • Inspect, test, maintain, and operate respiratory therapy equipment.
  • Respond to “code blue” calls and assist by maintaining the patient’s airway and performing CPR.
  • Instruct respiratory technicians.
  • Attend department meetings as needed.
  • Adhere to HIPAA guidelines, policies and procedures

Qualifications

  • Minimum of associate degree (Bachelor’s preferred) in related field
  • Registered with the National Board of Respiratory Care
  • NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Licensed by Florida Respiratory Care Board
  • Current CPR (BLS), ACLS, and NRP certification required or obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • PALS certification required or obtained within 12 months of hire.
