Medical Records Clerk/Scanner

Job Summary

We are in search of a full-time Medical Records Clerk/Scanner. This role is responsible for producing accurate and timely digital copies of documents for retention purposes.

 Essential Functions

  • Sort and file all patient information.
  • Print and fax all transcribed or electronic reports to our referring physicians.
  • Pull and file medical records.
  • Pull all charts for Chart Prep and Scanners as needed.
  • Pull archived charts when needed.
  • Process expired patient information.
  • Process requests for records from Insurance Companies, physicians’ offices and patient requests.
  • Pull charts for special projects.
  • Pull and store expired charts.
  • Obtain charts and documents to appropriately file and scan using electronic medical records systems.
  • Make adjustments to documents and/or equipment, as needed, to ensure clean and clear scans.
  • Respond to medical records requests/questions.
  • Route messages and scanned documents to appropriate staff members and providers.
  • Responsible for the retrieval, sorting and scanning of incoming faxes to the appropriate patient record.
  • Strictly adheres to all BCMS, HIPAA, HRSA, State, Federal and accreditation agency rules and regulations.
  • Dispose of scanned medical records.
  • Adhere to company HIPAA policies and procedures, identifying, maintaining and protecting sensitive HIPAA information (PHI) and following procedures to ensure the security of such information.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Completion of technical program, preferred.
  • Medical records experience, preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, preferred.
