Ed Fraser Memorial Hospital is hiring a PRN Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA). This role assesses patient’s conditions, needs and goals to establish effective therapy and treatment plans according to the prescription of a physician. Complies with treatment plans and communicates with patients, their family, and caregivers while being compassionate and sensitive to patients concerns and needs Treats disabilities, injuries and diseases according to the prescription of a physician with the various modalities and skills of the profession.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the care, safety and well-being of the patient during assigned activities and for observing all necessary precautions and procedures in the use of equipment to prevent retarding the healing process of an injured patient.
- Verify client information by interviewing client, reviewing and recording medical history, confirming purpose of treatment.
- Help clients improve their quality of life by helping them compensate for limitations, such as, helping injured workers improve their motor skills and re-enter the labor force, and teaching persons with learning disabilities to prepare meals or to use public transportation and increase their independence.
- Follow treatment plan developed in collaboration with occupational therapist by teaching techniques, such as, the proper method of moving from a bed into a wheelchair, and the best ways to stretch and limber muscles.
- Monitor activities to make sure they are performed correctly and provide encouragement, bringing treatment that is not having the intended effect to the attention of the therapist.
- Maintain patient occupational therapy records by recording client’s progress for use by the occupational therapist.
- Generate revenues by recording billing information of services rendered.
- Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
- Serve and protect the occupational therapy practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.
Qualifications
- Must be a graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant Program.
- Must have state of Florida licensure and the national certification requirements met.
- Must have valid BLS certification, required.
- With educational requirements met, no prior experience is necessary. One year in a hospital facility is preferred. At least one year experience dealing with different conditions, diagnoses, splints, and post-surgical procedures preferred.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently, and be flexible to make quick decisions when plans change.
