Ed Fraser Memorial Hospital is hiring a Full Time – Night shift Paramedic. This position will assist with basic patient care based on individual patient needs within the scope of practice under direct supervision of the registered nurse. Maintains environment that is prepared for patient care.
Essential Functions
• Provide supportive care to the Emergency Department patients under the direct supervision of the registered nurse or physician. Perform approved procedures per policy.
• Take, document and report vital signs. Report abnormal results immediately to registered nurse.
• Take height and weight measurements.
• Place ECG electrodes and attach ECG monitor correctly.
• Assist with setting up oxygen, per instructions.
• Assist registered nurse and physicians with assessments, examinations and treatment.
• Record I&O, collect specimens.
• Notify appropriate licensed staff when patient complains of pain.
• Observe, document and report patient condition and changes in condition to the registered nurse.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patients served. Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including crutch walking, dressing changes and assisting physician with splint or cast application.
• Perform and assist with technical skills as defined in scope of practice.
• Receive and carry out instructions accurately and promptly. All patient care activities are delegated and supervised by the registered nurse.
• Transport patients, as necessary. Assist with moving, ambulating and lifting patients.
• Document patient care performed, including vital signs, bedside care and observations.
• Adhere to hospital policy addressing standard precautions, safety regulations guidelines.
• Communicate in an effective and efficient manner with all documentation, and with all co workers, patients, visitors and physicians.
• Respond to patient and visitor questions and needs immediately and within established standards.
• Maintain patient comfort and privacy.
• Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduce the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
• Support and maintain a culture of safety and quality.
• Maintain and prepare rooms between patients and procedures.
• Assist with preparation of equipment for procedures.
• Monitor stock and restock supplies as needed.
• Maintain policies and procedures established by the department.
• Participate in performance improvement activities.
• Assist in cost containment through the appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.
• Demonstrate ability to work effectively as a multidisciplinary team member; support and assist team members in all activities.
• Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-services meetings and workshops; show responsibility for ongoing education.
Other related duties as assigned and supervised by an RN within the Paramedic scope of practice:
• Assist with triage process (including vital signs and history) to ensure timely and appropriate care to patients.
• Ability to monitor hemodynamic status of patient and correctly interpret the results.
• Ability to perform waived testing (point-of-care testing) per Clinical Laboratory’s and the patient care unit’s policies and procedures.
• Ability to interpret the results of waived tests; take appropriate action on waived test results.
• Discharge of patients (with physician order) to include patient teaching and follow-up instructions.
Professional Requirements
- Adhere to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
- Complete annual education requirements.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Wear BCMS issued identification badge while on duty.
- Maintain regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and local regulations.
- Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times.
- Comply with all organizational policies and standards regarding ethical business practices.
- Ensure adequate staffing of assigned departments.
Qualifications
- Current licensure as RPM in Florida.
- Current BLS certification.
- ACLS & PALS from the American Heart Association within 6 months of hire, maintain current thereafter.
- At least 1 year of experience in emergency department or prehospital setting as RPM.

- Must possess high-degree of resourcefulness as it relates to a thorough knowledge of hospital management principles and practices.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions
- Working irregular hours.
- Physically demanding, high-stress environment.
- Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions
- Pushing and pulling heavy objects.
- Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients.
- Position requires pushing, pulling, lifting, and/or carrying heavy objects up to or greater than 50 pounds.
- Position requires reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing.
