The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting doctors and nurses in providing care to their patients. Their duties include recording and updating medical histories and contact information in patient files, scheduling patient appointments and performing standard care procedures like drawing blood, checking vitals or collecting lab samples.
Essential Functions
- Triage patients’ complete vitals and update medical history.
- Complete daily prep chart for next day patients.
- Check and complete Desktop for messages.
- Call patients with results between scheduled patients.
- Work Desktop tasking with physicians and office staff.
- Assist Physicians in examinations, minor surgery and treatment of the patient.
- Maintain examination and treatment areas.
- Knowledge of equipment and sterilization techniques for all instruments and equipment.
- Knowledge of inventory, ordering, storing and disposing of medical supplies.
- Coordinate with office or hospital staff for scheduling for specialty physicians.
- Administer injections or medicine given to patients per Physician.
- Maintain logbook for medical counts/tracking usage.
- Perform supply inventory count.
- Collect specimens.
- Perform EKG’s.
- Coordinate in-services/meetings for CMA with Clinic Director.
- Check all medical supply count.
- Assist with training new CMA’s.
- View physicians Desktop for outstanding results and issues.
- Open Clinic and review all rooms and ensure desktops are ready for patients.
- Pull records from outside Hospitals (SV, Baptist, HCA, etc.)
- Update health maintenance/CQMS at every visit.
- Scan in medical records.
- Send chart notes and messages from patient to physician.
- Submit Prescription refill requests.
- Confirm or reschedule next day appointments.
- Order supplies from Central Supply.
- Assist patients with specialty medications in applying for financial assistance.
- Train any new employees that will or may be called on to cover this position.

- Adhere to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
- Complete annual education requirements.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Wear BCMS issued identification badge while on duty.
- Maintain regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and local regulations.
- Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times.
- Comply with all organizational policies and standards regarding ethical business practices.
- Ensure adequate staffing of assigned departments.
Qualifications
- Graduate of a Certified Medical Assistant program.
- Experience working in a related healthcare position, preferred.
- GI Experience preferred.

- Must possess a high degree of customer service aptitude.
- Advanced technology skills to master the technology system.
- The ability to multi-task and professionally deal with both employee and client issues.
- Must possess great accuracy for details, and be composed under pressure.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills including effective communication, both oral and written.
- Be able to interact with a diverse population and caregivers at all levels of the organization.
- Superior customer services skills & knowledge of medical terminology.
- Work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and maintain a positive attitude.
- Manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and prioritize scheduling of work.
- Maintain confidentiality of all staff, medical, financial, and/or legal related information.
- Complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner.
- Handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner.
