Laboratory Director

We are hiring a full-time Laboratory Director at Baker County Medical Services.

Job Summary

The Laboratory Director is responsible for the overall operation and administration of the laboratory. They plan, implement, evaluate, and manage all aspects of laboratory operations, compliance and regulatory practice standards, business development and outreach initiatives, operations and capital budget planning and management, employee, and customer relations.

 Essential Functions

  • Provide medical laboratory diagnostic and therapeutic information, products, and services.
  • Adhere to specimen preparation procedures.
  • Implement new programs, tests, methods, and instrumentation.
  • Establish quality standards to maintain medical laboratory equipment performance.
  • Keep supplies stocked by determining inventory level.
  • Maintain medical laboratory productivity by monitoring the workload of functional areas.
  • Achieve quality results by participating in the hospital quality assurance program.
  • Identify informational needs to manage medical laboratory information systems.
  • Maintain medical laboratory staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
  • Complete operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees.
  • Council and discipline employees as needed to achieve productivity and goals.
  • Prepare physicians, nurses, patients, and students by teaching analytical theory.
  • Comply with state and professional continuing education licensure requirements.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a laboratory science or related field, required.
  • A Master’s degree in a laboratory related discipline or business administration, preferred.
  • Florida MT license in Chemistry, Hematology, Serology, Microbiology, and Immunopathology, required.
  • ASCP/AAB MT Certification.

  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
  • Ability to prepare and process laboratory samples using established protocols.
  • Ability to monitor and/or maintain quality control standards.

  • Ability to perform a range of clinical laboratory tests and chemical analyses on biological samples.
  • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
  • Ability to draw intravenous and peripheral blood.
  • Knowledge of laboratory and experimental protocols and procedures.
  • Knowledge of tissue culture procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to utilize, calibrate, configure and/or troubleshoot laboratory testing systems and instruments.
  • Ability to isolate and identify specimens using advanced laboratory techniques and equipment.
  • Knowledge of sterile procedures.
  • Ability to write correspondence and reports.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work such as moving and lifting equipment, standing for long periods of time, etc.
  • Work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and prioritize scheduling of work.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all staff, medical, financial, and/or legal related information.
  • Complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner.
